Bo sent this notice out to the Board to consider. I do believe as he mentioned we have talked about this before as a Benevolent Committee donation. It sounds as if the Longmont, Colorado Fire Department was receptive to getting the donation. Pets are sometimes the victims in house fires, and the use of a Oxygen Mask is usually one of the human varieties. As our facial structures are so different, often those masks don’t do the job efficiently. Let’s look into this as a portion of our donations.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Canaan Dog Club of America, Inc. donates pet oxygen masks
Donation Will Help Pets In Longmont, Colorado
June 22, 2011 — In celebration of their 2011 Annual Meetings and National Show, members of the Canaan Dog Club of America, Inc. (CDCA, Inc.) raised enough money to outfit the Longmont (Colorado) Fire Department with two sets of Pet Oxygen Masks. This donation is the first in what will be an annual donation to support Fire Departments in the cities where the club holds their Annual Meetings. Members of the Longmont (Colorado) Fire Department came to the CDCA, Inc.’s Awards Banquet on Saturday, June 4th to accept the donation. The donation of the Pet Oxygen Mask kits means that the Fire Department will be able to outfit two of their trucks, helping them provide better care to the community. According to Wag’N Enterprises, LLC who produces the oxygen mask kits, “far too many pets die each year of smoke asphyxiation…. While firemen attempt to get pets safely out of burning structures, they are not able to revive them unless they have the proper equip-ment — pet oxygen masks. These specially-designed animal masks can be used both on conscious pets that have suffered from smoke inhalation and pets that need to be resuscitated after losing consciousness from exposure to the dangerous toxic fumes.” Each kit allows rescue workers to help animals as small as birds and pockets pets up to large dogs.
The Canaan Dog Club of America, Inc. (CDCA, Inc.) is already making plans to support a fire department near Greenville, South Carolina, with a similar donation in 2012. Greenville, South Carolina is the site of the CDCA, Inc.’s 2012 Annual Meetings and National Show. The Canaan Dog Club of America, Inc. (CDCA, Inc.) is the American Kennel Club’s parent club for the Canaan Dog breed. Canaan Dogs are one of the most ancient breeds in the world but are still relatively unknown in the United States. Canaan Dogs are herding and flock sentry dogs originating in the “Land of Canaan” (now Israel).
