Mission: The Foundation is dedicated to advancing the health of all dogs and their owners by fund-ing sound scientific research and supporting the dissemination of health information to prevent, treat, and cure canine disease.
The CHF has policies in place to protect the dogs involved in the research it funds. The CHF does not fund research involving disease introduction or injury, or research that involves euthanasia as part of experimental design. CHF-funded research is minimally invasive, protects dogs from unnecessary discomfort and uses only client-owned dogs. Many CHF studies only require samples’ so the dogs are not present in the research facility. CHF, in many instances, has been present at dog shows to take blood, cheek swabs and other samples. Dr. Terry Warren, JD, CEO of CHF emphasizes the CHF-funded research “is not on dogs. It’s for dogs.”
As a nonprofit charitable organization, the AKC Canine Health Foundation helps dogs live longer, healthier lives by raising funds to support research that benefits all dogs and people.
