It seems that May is a favored month for National Specialties. The
Scottish Deerhound Club of America is no exception. We rotate our Specialties through the 3 regions of the Country and this year it was in the Midwestern Region in Michigan. It was held in Frankenmuth, which is a theme city similar to Leavenworth, Washington. It is Xmas 365 days a year. We thought we had beaten the odds with the weather, until Saturday, Best Of Breed day when all the Specials are piped into to the ring by a real live Bagpiper in kilts and all. THE RAINS CAME! Not only rains [read that as Downpour] but Thunder and Lightening! Deerhounds are ALWAYS shown outside! We had a huge Tent but because it was too dark under the tent for the video camera to get the shots from across the 100 x 100 ft! ring. The dogs were sent out [in the pouring rain] to do their down and backs and once around. They all survived, didn’t melt, DHs are made of sterner stuff. Of course Sunday the sun returned as we all said good-bye.
This week as I write this the Borzoi National is in process in Richland Washington. So Jan, Patty and Don, and Barbara O’Neill are all over there for the week. Wishing them all good luck, good weather.
I am going to reprint the proposed Federal Rule from the Agriculture Department. We should all add our 2 cents in comments to save ourselves before it is too late.
No minutes in this issue. As there was no meeting in May. This may also be a slim issue. I have been suffering from “Editor’s Block”. You know I do take suggestions for articles. Anything we “borrow” from other publications just need an ok to use. Most are quite willing to share their articles of interest.
So until June 13th, 2nd Wednesday, keep safe and hug your dogs.
