Secretary’s Report of meeting on May 10, 2017
Meeting was called to order by President Rusty Kingery at 7:02 PM.
Members attending were: Rusty Kingery, Sandee Isaacson, Julia Johns, Geri Orta, Madeline Boucher, and Roy Tellef.
Rusty read Jan Leikam’s letter to AKC detailing our requests to Whidbey Island Kennel Club requesting our shows be held in August on Cascade Air Field in Snohomish, WA.
In 2015. Whidbey Island Kennel Club waited 3 weeks before answering our request . But the show was then approved by Whidbey Island Kennel Club for that year.
Our August 2016 show request was denied by Whidbey Island Kennel Club who had held off answering for 3 months, but because it was too late to cancel these shows, AKC approved for us to go ahead as planned. Plans for improving our site were halted this year when Whidbey Island Kennel Club yet again denied our request to hold our shows on the Cascade Air Field site for 2017.
Several other locations have been explored to hold our shows on but we’ve run into a problem with all sites with the amount of parking required.
Appeal: AKC representative, Glen Lycan, was sent a copy of our request that was sent to Whidbey Island Kennel Club the very next week after our 2016 shows and has been kept informed on all correspondence for the past year. Whidbey Island has until May 26, 2017 to respond to the AKC about our request. If denied, we will have to wait until Mr. Lycan’s response to the situation in June. Since AKC changed the amendment covering these kind of situations, which many clubs have been facing recently, we are hopeful this will make a difference for us.
If we do get approval to continue holding our show at Cascade Air Field, we will be in a huge rush to get everything accomplished for the shows. All members will need to handle many levels of work for this to work in August.
Jan Leikam, our Treasurer, was unable to attend this meeting, so Rusty Kingery handed out financials to all members.
I read a very nice thank you letter from Meredith Masch, who received this year’s award from the Dee Carlson Memorial Scholarship through Washington State University College of Veterinarian Medicine. She is from Paso Robles, CA. She and her family have been long time breeder/owner/handlers of West Highland White Terriers.
We read an application for Laura Pearson to join our club. It was her second reading and all were in favor of her joining. She works with Jan at Crescent Lighting. Her interests are dock diving and lure coursing as well as conformation with her Australian Shepherds.
As for our show site in Snohomish, the Borzoi club will be holding their Specialty on the grounds this August and the Golden Retriever club wants to come back to the site with a long term contract. That will be determined later.
Our picnic date of July 8th had to be moved to July 15, 2017 due to conflicts with shows elsewhere. Hoping one and all will be able to attend this year. NOTE: New date for JULY 15th picnic at our show site. Time to be determined as well as pot luck items.
Our next meeting will be held on June 14, 2017 back at Fire Station #26 at 7 PM.
Meeting was adjourned at 7:46 PM.
Respectfully submitted by Secretary Sandee Isaacson
