Notice from the AKC

January 12, 2012

Dear Member Club President,

Now in its fifth year, the American Kennel Club Outstanding Sportsmanship Award celebrates our constituents who deserve special recognition for having made a difference in the Sport of Purebred Dogs, embody the AKC Code of Sportsmanship, and have been an active and valued member of an AKC member club.

Last year we instituted a change in the process for the award, and will continue the process in 2012. We will not be sending out a mass mailing of medallions to all Member Club Delegates as we had in previous years. Any Member Club wishing to award the medallion in 2012 must designate one officer to email me at nxs@akc.org stating that their club does indeed wish to participate this year. Please supply me with the name and address of the person to whom the medallion should be mailed. The person identified may either be a club officer who will be in charge of the presentation or the actual medallion recipient.

We have purposefully left the structure of the program up to each individual club so that you may determine the exact process by which your recipient is selected and the particular criteria to be used.

Please inform us of your club's winner of the award so that we may continue to list the recipients on our web site. Direct all questions and recipient information to me vial email at nxs@akc.org.

We have received feedback from many member clubs and recipients expressing their appreciation for having such a recognition program. Our sincerest wish is that this program will instill a greater appreciation for Outstanding Sportsmanship and deepen our sense of pride in the Sport of Purebred Dogs.

On behalf of The American Kennel Club, we congratulate your club's recipient.

Neil Singer
