The minutes from the July picnic were approved as printed in the Barker. Laura mentioned that Holly Berman has submitted her membership application and has attended 5 club functions.
President’s report: The board picked a nominating committee. Rusty said we need to vote on the nominees for the AKC Lifetime Achievement Awards. Anyone that hasn’t paid for their trophy donations still needs too. Bo suggested a snow bound theme for the January show trophy theme and a barbeque theme for the August show.
Secretary’s report: Membership application was read for the first time on Holly Berman. Second reading will be in October and voted on.
Treasurer’s report: Patty Anderson was absent.
August 2012 show: Jan reported it was a great show.
January 2013 show: Jan said everything is all set and the judge panels are up.
AKC Delegate: Bo reported the vote of the 3 point major to the Winner’s Dog and Bitch was approved. It is awarded once per year at the discretion of the parent club at a National Specialty. It starts January 2013. There was discussion about the concept of exclusivity. If a club does not have a show in its home base for 2 years then it loses exclusivity to that territory for a conformation event meaning that another group could host a show there. If the original club came back to host a show again then they would be in competition with the new group. There was a move to restore exclusivity but it never came to a vote. It was referred for future discussion. The first Urban Search and Rescue dog Award was given regarding the dogs excellent service on 9/11. Rusty requested Bo to look into presenting the video as a program to the club. Bo presented on a committee to the AKC looking at multifactors involved for reasons and contractual policies were on show cancellations, hotels, and money returns etc due to inclement weather conditions or emergencies. He also discussed about SKC opting into a program when a person registered their puppy that the parent club would release an alert to the new puppy owner to any all breed kennel club’s in the area. Jan moved that SKC opts in for this program. It was seconded and passed unanimously. Dee brought up the question of whether it could include obedience and other all breed dog events. Bo will investigate that further. A Face book page idea was discussed for the club. Laura Young volunteered to maintain a Face book page if SKC decided to have one. Laura and Bo will talk about the details at a later date.
The club voted on the nominees for AKC Lifetime Achievement Awards. Conformation: Ed Sledzik. Companion Events: Robert Squires. Performance: Jean Dieden, DVM. Michelle Brown will submit the vote for the nominees to the AKC by September 14th.
Next Meeting: October 10th, 2012 at the Rose Hill Fire Station.
Motion granted to adjourn the meeting at 8:16pm.
